Our team is composed of many different people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skills. Each person brings new elements to the table that are essential in creating a well-rounded company. In this series of blog posts, we hope to let our readers get to know our team as well as we do. From what they do both inside and outside of the office to their tastes in TV and music, these posts are a chance to learn about about what makes our team members tick.

Meet Rod - back-end developer, music lover, and Vegemite defender.

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Rod started working for Vector in 2013. After working in a small startup company in Australia, Rod moved to NYC to become part of the Vector team. I talked with Rod about music, his dog Douglas, planning his lunches, and what he loves about working at Vector.

Q: Where did you go to school and what did you study?
A: I went to the University of Queensland (Brisbane is in a state called Queensland), and I studied Information Technology

Q: How has your role evolved since you started working at Vector?
A: When I started working here, we were in a co-working office space in Union Square and were a team of only 15 people. Since then, Vector has grown immensely. I work mainly as a Back End Developer, but I have done a little bit of everything, and have been called in for bit parts on several projects. I like to say that I’m a jack of all trades, and a master of none.

[Editor’s Note: He’s just being modest - he’s a master of all.]

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Vector?
A: It is the most interesting job I have had work-wise. I love any time I get to try something new, and here there are the most opportunities for learning and being challenged.

Q: What does your typical lunch look like?
A: It depends on the day of the week. For example, on Mondays I usually get sushi because it’s a bit lighter to make up for the weekend. Smart, right?

Q: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
A: Vegemite on toast -  it’s part of who I am. If I stopped eating it, I’d get withdrawals.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Yes, I have a pomeranian cross 12-13 year old dog named Douglas that I adopted from the ASPCA as an adult. He’s deaf, has a cataract in one eye, and he is the best.

Q: If you were put in charge of the office playlist, what would it include?
A: Mostly alternative rock that was popular in 1998-2005, towards the end of pop punk to when indie started becoming more electronic. Definitely more guitar-oriented rock ‘n’ roll - I love Interpol.

Q: What is your favorite spot in New York?
A: I love Williamsburg. There are a lot of great music venues, and I always have a lot of fun there.

Q: If you were in charge of planning Vector’s next employee event, what would you do?
A: I’d get everyone to go to Governer’s Ball!

Q: What are some other interesting facts about yourself?
A: Where do you start? I’ve been married for 5 years, and we just got remarried by Elvis in Las Vegas, I’m half Australian and half New Zealander, I spent about 10 years playing bass guitar in bands. I can keep going…
